RSV VACCINE NOW AVAILABLE for Babies at Our Practice

There is now a free vaccine to protect babies from RSV. If your baby was born between 1 March 2026 and 31 August 2026, you can book this at our practice.
Why This Matters
RSV is a common virus. It causes chest infections.
1 in 2 babies get RSV.
For most babies, it's like a bad cold. But for some babies, it means a visit to the GP or hospital. A small number of babies need to stay in hospital. A few need intensive care.
The RSV vaccine is one injection. It's called Nirsevimab. It protects your baby for 5 months, right through the winter.
What the Vaccine Does
The vaccine:
Protects your baby from severe RSV for 5 months
Makes it much less likely your baby will get seriously ill
Makes chest infections less likely
Lowers the chance of a hospital stay
Lowers the chance of needing intensive care
Is Your Baby Eligible?
Born 1 March 2026 to 31 August 2026? Book the vaccine with us at the GP practice.
Born 1 September 2026 to 28 February 2027? Your baby will get the vaccine at the maternity hospital, soon after birth. If your baby is born at home during RSV season, the maternity hospital will also offer it.
Is your baby under 24 months and high risk? Some babies under 2 may also qualify. This includes babies born very early (before 30 weeks) and babies with a heart or lung condition, or a weak immune system. Ask us if this might be your baby.
Book Early
The vaccine protects for 5 months. The earlier your baby gets it, the more of the winter they are covered for. Don't wait until RSV cases start rising.
